Ready position

How do you teach the ready position? What is the ready position?

My sons first year to play t-ball..
I say Ready!(really loud). His knees bend and hands go out (his butt is not low enough but hell he just started) Why is it kids that are in their second year still sit on the grass? Or even worse ...Put their hands on their knees!!!! This is not down and ready.

Coaches..hands on your knees is not, Did I say IS NOT.. down and ready.
I prefer in coaching youth baseball to use as few words as possible. I yell READY!..I expect to see the hands come off the knees, knees bend and butt go down for balance.

The most very basic principle in defense, yet we still dont do it. Practice at home. Please dont expect your child to learn these things without baseball homework.

1) Your child is 4, 5, 6 , 7 ,8, etc. He has to learn to be ready for the ball.
That means
a) Butt down, - This forces the knees to bend and gets the hands(glove) down for
ground balls
c) glove in front(faced open of course) Surely he knows to use 2 hands.

Note: if child doesnt know how to use two hands to catch the ball..
1) The best way to teach two hands is state loudly, READY! Show them what
it looks like a couple of times.
2) Then let them try. State READY!(loudly)roll grounders and toss balls to
them without the child using a glove. Once they do it a few times
without a glove..
3) let them try it again with a glove(Dont forget READY!). Repeat for a
couple of weeks and you will be impressed.
Example..at beginning of
practice state READY (loudly) and watch the knees bend and hands go
down. You hve taught the ready position!

Basic ready position..
1) Butt down with knees bent(knees will bend if butt is down) That is why I stress butt down. Plus sometimes a few kids think it is funny..and they respond to funny)
2)Hands in front. With or without glove.
